*A note about assisted adoptions for private parties: This is a service that NBCR&P offers to dogs other than those in our care who are in need of homes. While we generally do not take in dogs surrendered by private parties, we do what we can to assist in the placement of the animals. We do, however, strongly encourage people to explore every possible alternative to surrendering their pets. Please research and clarify any concerns, costs, or anything else that may arise as a problem PRIOR to acquisition of a particular dog. We suggest you do this with all types of rescues/adoptions or (heaven forbid!) purchases from breeders. Our guidelines for assisted adoptions are listed below.

(1/25/03) If you can no longer keep your pets for any reason, please do all that you can to find them suitable homes before abandoning them to shelters. Unless the facility is specifically a no-kill shelter, leaving them there puts them in great danger, as is the case with Belle and Spanky. |
Belle
and Spanky - Rest in Peace. We are deeply troubled because Belle and Spanky, who were available until recently, were surrendered to the humane society by their owner, who was going on a trip and would no longer care for them. She thought they would be safe at the shelter and that some lovely family would surely adopt them, but they were, in fact, euthanized. This all-too-common optimism is troubling as well. Shelters are not safe places for animals because of the overwhelming number of animals abandoned to them each day. Giving up your "best friends" to a shelter, pound, humane society or animal control facility is not an alternative, it's a potential death sentence. The harsh reality is that there are more animals needing homes than there are homes able to accommodate them, so many die every day, all year long, year after year. |

Jaspar
is approximately 5 years old, neutered, male
Blue Heeler.
Hi, I'm Jaspar a young and sweet Blue Heeler. I can be shy at first, but I warm up quickly. I've got a little bit of a vehicle fetish and I tend to chase anything that moves, so perhaps the city would not be the best environment for me. But for all of you ranchers out there I'd be a great asset. I'm friendly, loyal, affectionate and smart. I'll go to work with you and stick by your side all day long and help you with the chores. Please take me and put me to work. I lost most of my foot to a coyote, but I made a full recovery. Jaspar is currently residing in Willits, CA |

Willy is approximately 3 years old, neutered, male Australian Cattle Dog. My name is Willy. I'm shy and I don't trust people. I'm only 3, but something must have happened to me because new people scare me and I don't like to be touched by strangers. It takes me a very long time to become comfortable with someone; once I do, I can be very affectionate. I love to run and play and I bark when I get excited. I知 definitely a handful, but an experienced owner would help me come out of my shell. Willy is currently residing in Willits, CA |
Apache is approximately 11 years old, spayed, female Australian Cattle Dog. Hi, I am Apache, great with people, with other dogs and with cats. I am very independent, love car rides, swimming and following my person around. I can be a little ornery when I am sleeping in my favorite corner, but I am smart and I aim to please. Apache is currently residing in Willits, CA |

Orson is approximately 8 (est) years old, neutered, male Australian Cattle Dog. Hello, Orson Well here. A full size Aussie/Cattle dog Mix, I am very people oriented and enjoy a food immensely. I am excellent off leash as any respectable heeler should be and I prefer female dogs. Male dogs need not apply. I really like hanging out in people痴 home and I am well behaved. Once in a while I forget that I am inside and mark a few spots, but I知 working hard on improving my indoor manners. If you have a nice back yard, I would love to move in! Orson is currently residing in Willits, CA |

Amazon is a 4 year old, large 76lb, spayed female Australian Cattle Dog/German Shorthaired mix. She was misplaced 5 times through a local Sonoma County Rescue and is looking for her forever home. She is a very sweet dog, but gets a bit worried when she thinks she is being left again. She loves to play tug of war, play ball and loves to swim. She sits well and loves men-she is very drawn to them, especially since one took her swimming all the time. He then got work where he had to leave her in a garage and she didn't so well with that. Amazon is fine as long as she is with her human, so it is preferred that she be with someone who has their own business, or can take her to work with them. She is a tall dog so there must be high fencing. She does well with cats after she gets to know them. 'Bark Collars' are not recommended, as she is being trained not to bark. She needs some leash training, but has a lot of manners that make her shine. She tries so hard to please, and always listens to what is asked of her. Amazon is not good with all dogs, so it is very important that she gets to know them first. She has been vaccinated, is Heartworm negative, is Lyme disease negative, microchipped and wormed. She will make a great, great companion for life. Home visits, vet references, prior dog ownership a must, and adoption fees apply. Amazon is currently being fostered in Santa Rosa, CA |

Peter Parker is a 1 1/2 year old, 55-60 lb. neutered, male Chocolate Lab/Border Collie mix. He originally came from Fort Bragg and was transferred to the Ukiah shelter, where he was then rescued from. He has blossomed into a wonderful and amazing dog. He is so happy to be alive, but because of his herding breed, tends to nip when excited. He has many scars around his head, which is believed to be caused from being attacked. Once he gets to know new dogs, he loves them, but while they are unknown, Peter has a hard time with them, and is afraid of being hurt by them. Peter loves women more than anything, although it takes him a while to get to know men. He loves to play hide and seek, play chase, and he listens well. He is really good on leash, and is completely house-trained. He enjoys going for long walks in the morning, and shorter walks in the evening. Because Peter has been attacked in the past, he is deaf in one ear, and would prefer a quieter household with adults. He is also not good with cats. Peter is vaccinated, Heartworm negative, micro-chipped and wormed, and adoption fees apply. Peter Parker is currently residing in Santa Rosa, CA |
Bartemaeus is a beautiful, blind, 8 mo old, neutered Australian Shepherd. He is up to date on all his shots.
Bart man hears great; that is what he primarily relies on to function.
He loads up in the car, sits on command, door open, steps up and steps down for the curbs when we go walkng. He is a great dog; walks on a leash, connected to his to his pitbull, Tootsie. He sits and is house trained. He is being given basic needs, food shelter... but his owner feels like she is neglecting his basic herding/working needs. He plays well with her female pitbull but has a little food aggression. He has potential of being a great buddy dog. He is quite a normal dog in most aspects; he was born blind so he doesn't know the difference. Bartemaeus is good with current owners 11 year old child and their cat. Bartemaeus is currently residing in Concord, CA |
Still More Dang Dogs on Page Three
Below are several shelter Web site addresses which are good resources for finding that perfect pet. An animal in a shelter is considered to be in a high-risk situation because of space limitations. The less room there is in a shelter, the higher the probability of euthanasia. Many of the dogs in our care are "11th-hour rescues" from death row in kill facilities. For this reason, we encourage you to consider shelter adoptions first, because we can't possibly pull all the dogs that need to be saved. The animals in our care are, at least, safe, while animals in shelters face a less hopeful fate. |

Assisted
private
adoption guidelines:
Beyond the guidelines stated above, the adoption will be between the owner and adoptive party, and NBCR&P can only suggest that certain criteria be followed when placing the animal in a new home. Most often, private party adoptions have no fees, contracts, or commitment that the animal be returned to his or her original home should the adoption not work out. NBCR&P does not endorse this type of adoption. If you have a dog you need to find a new home for and would like to participate in our third party adoption program, please send a clear photograph of your pet (no polaroids, please), a brief yet concise bio of the dog (modeled after those above, stating name of the pet, age, approx. weight, description of personality, good with kids, cats, other dogs, etc.), proof of spay/neuter and shots, and a check in the amount of $20, and your contact information (full name, address & phone number). We will keep the dog on the web site for as long as you wish, however, please remain in communication with us regarding the status of the placement. Send the photo, dog's bio, proof of spay/neuter, check (made payable to North Bay Canine Rescue & Placement), and your name, address, and phone number directly to the NBCR&P at the following address: Hollie Lama Remember, make your check payable to "North Bay Canine
Rescue & Placement."
If you would like, you may email us photo and bio, fax us the proof of spay or neuter and mail the
check. PLEASE BE SURE TO SEND EVERYTHING ON THE SAME DAY.
Once we receive the above, we will notify you
that we have received all of the required information and that we have, in fact, placed
your pet's photo & bio on this page. There are many more dogs available than are profiled on this page. As with all rescue groups, we constantly hear of other dogs in need of homes, and, while we try to update our web site regularly, getting photographs taken, film developed, and photos scanned for uploading onto the web site takes time. If you don't see the kind of dog you're looking for, please don't hesitate to call us. On a daily basis, we are in touch with shelters, pounds, humane societies, and other rescue organizations. While we will always recommend the hearty mutt, we will not hesitate to direct you toward a purebred organization, if that is your interest. Most pure breed organizations have members who are concerned with the rescue of that particular breed. If a mutt does not strike your fancy, we strongly encourage you to rescue, rather than buy outright, purebred dogs whenever possible. Our philosophy is: Don't Buy. Don't Breed. Rescue!!!
