A Little Bit About Me
Maka Lua is a charming Cattle Dog/Corgi mix, and she is herding dog through and through! This funny girl needs very experienced owners who aren’t going to let her get away with any silly mischief, but will instead help her be a good girl in all things with great management and training. Like a lot of herdy dogs, she can be bossy and manipulative, but she also has a sense of humor, loves to play (she retrieves a ball nicely!) and is going to adore her people very, very much. She’s one smart cookie, though, so don’t let her be smarter than you!
As with all of us, Maka Lua has a few quirks that she needs work on: she doesn’t like any kind of invasive handling, even having her feet touched. She rolls on her back and offers her belly up for rubs as an alternative, but will really resist if you try to ask for more. She will also guard high-value chewies, like pig ears and knuckle bones, but will happily trade for treats. Experienced owners will already know the importance of training and management in a situation like this, so you’ll get to exercise those skills with her. She will do best with children old enough (16+) to participate in this.
Maka Lua is interesting with other dogs… she’ll go in for a direct greeting and if the other dog shies away, she’ll snark! But if the other dog doesn’t shy away and tells her to back off, she totally will. And when another dog was making a big display at her, she barked back but it was really easy to get her attention back. She could probably do well in a home with another well-mannered dog, with a proper introduction and appropriate supervision. She would NOT do well at a dog park, so plan on getting her exercise elsewhere.
Yeah, she’s cute but if that’s your main interest in her, you should maybe keep looking. Maka Lua is a funny, silly dog but she is a WHOLE LOT of dog, and not for someone who has only had a dog or two. Don’t let her age fool you – she’s got many miles to go before she’s done!
